As the leader of our Human Resources function at Alkermes, I see every day the hard work, dedication and collaborative spirit that my colleagues bring as we work to make a difference in the lives of people living with complex neurological and psychiatric disorders. Beyond that, though, everyone on team Alkermes is passionate about helping the next generation prepare for careers in the life science industry. This year, we’ve welcomed 30 interns and co-ops to our organization, who are already making contributions across a variety of functions, including R&D, marketing, corporate affairs, legal and more.
In addition to gaining experience in a corporate setting, interning at Alkermes also offers the opportunity to learn how biotech companies like Alkermes work urgently to make a difference in the lives of patients we seek to serve. These paid opportunities provide interns with the chance to make tangible contributions within their functions, while also working to develop the “soft skills” that can help early-career individuals grow and thrive. Throughout our internship program, we offer advice for expanding one’s professional network, guidance on resume creation and the job application process, as well as weekly lunch and learns where interns can hear from and network with senior Alkermes leaders in a smaller setting.
For me and my colleagues on our Alkermes HR team, watching our interns grow their skills and contribute to our business is an immensely rewarding experience every year. The opportunity for students to learn and grow is a special one, and I’m thankful to everyone on team Alkermes who has supported this program this summer and in previous years. Finally, I’d like to thank each of our interns – your unique backgrounds, experiences and skills are so appreciated.
