About Pathways APN Research Awards


The Alkermes Pathways Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Research Awards™ program is designed to empower the advanced practice nursing community by offering funding opportunities that recognize their vital role in evidence-based care and the advancement of mental health research.

The Alkermes Pathways APN Research Awards provide opportunities for individual grants of up to $10,000 per project for licensed psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners who are actively engaged in clinical, academic, and/or community health settings and are committed to advancing research in schizophrenia or bipolar I disorder.

The Alkermes Pathways APN Research Awards program represents an important evolution of our long-standing commitment to supporting early career investigators, expanding our support to advanced practice nurses whose unique perspectives can further inform clinical practice and deepen understanding of serious mental illness.

Selection Criteria

All applications will be formally reviewed by an Independent Review Committee comprising prominent researchers in the relevant field. The Review Committee has final responsibility for selection of Awardees.

When the Review Committee evaluates a proposal, they will consider criteria, including but not limited to overall impact, candidate qualifications, research environment and institutional/organization's commitment to the applicant and research plan.

Note that applications are not required to include an Alkermes product. 

General Eligibility Criteria

The Alkermes APN Pathways Research Awards program is for licensed nurse practitioners specializing in psychiatric-mental health and actively practicing in clinical, academic, or community health environments and who are committed to advancing research in schizophrenia or bipolar I disorder.

To be eligible, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be licensed nurse practitioners specializing in psychiatric-mental health and actively practicing in clinical, academic, or community health environments.
  • Eligible applicants must have a doctorate degree (PhD, DNP, etc.) or if not, must have a co-investigator/mentor who does.
  • The award cannot be used towards degree progress.
  • Must be willing and able to accept funding from a for-profit biopharmaceutical company.
  • The proposed research and final report must be completed within two years, with a poster, presentation, or publication draft by the end of the project period.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or holders of a work visa for the entire two-year grant period.
