Today’s life science interns are already hard at work shaping the future of our industry; in honor of National Intern Day, we want to recognize and reflect on their contributions to Team Alkermes so far. This year, our summer intern class is one of our biggest ever – we’re proud to be hosting more than 20 students across a variety of functions throughout our organization, including drug discovery and R&D, analytics, marketing, legal, procurement, operations, and quality.
Interning at Alkermes is a chance to preview a career in the life sciences, an immersive and potentially transformative experience with the potential to set the trajectory of one’s professional future. Along with formal mentoring and paid positions across our business designed to offer exposure to the inner workings of a global biopharmaceutical company, we also believe in providing ways to access the “softer skills” that can help people more fully orient to and excel in this industry. For example, tips on fostering your professional network, putting together a compelling resume and more, all supplemented by weekly lunch and learns where interns can talk with and learn from our leaders in a smaller setting.
Part of being a positive force for change means expanding opportunities to learn about, understand and benefit from each other’s experiences, ultimately helping us arrive at better innovations for patients, families, and communities impacted by complex psychiatric and neurological disorders. In addition to being our largest class ever, Alkermes’ 2024 internship program also stands out because it marks our second year partnering with Project Onramp, a national organization dedicated to breaking down barriers for undergraduates who may be the first in their networks to pursue a life sciences career and who often come from under-resourced and under-represented communities. We’re proud to continue this partnership and to support Project Onramp’s mission of bridging the opportunity gap to strengthen our industry with new talent and ideas.
For myself and others on our Alkermes HR and Talent Acquisition teams, developing our internship program is an incredibly rewarding experience every year. Watching students learn, grow and make real contributions to our organization is special, and I’m very grateful to all my colleagues who have supported this program this summer and previous years. I want to thank each of our interns for bringing their own diverse perspective, background and skills to Team Alkermes. Your contributions are valued and we are better for your presence with us this summer.
